I would often visit my grandmother and Aunt Vera’s house. They lived at 119 Ratcliffe Road in Loughborough.
The had a lovely little house and a beautiful Garden.
One year Granny and Vera had asked the children’s parents if they could stay at their house for 2 weeks. Everyone was excited as it was the big summer holidays.
Aunt Vera was a very kind person and thought of everyone. As my cousins were running up and down the garden, she said to me. “We have room for one more.” I was incredibly happy that she had asked me. I am the youngest in our family and my brothers are much older than me. My cousins have brothers and sisters, and they are very close in age. My parents said yes and then within a week we were all at their house. Me (Ann), Mary, Brendan, James and Malachi.
We slept in the big room on the front of the house.
Everyday day we would get up, have breakfast and then play, play, play.
We were also joined by our others cousins Oliie, Bernadette and Susan. They lived a few doors up. They didn’t stay overnight, but came to the house everyday.
Most of the time we were in the back garden. We picked teams and played tag, Olympics, skipping, running, the list goes on. I really enjoyed it at their house and so did all my cousins we have never forgotten it. Thankyou Aunt Vera and to our granny for the invite and making a very special summer we will never forget. X
